10:45 am | Fireside Chat: Getting Paid Faster
In most construction companies, accounts payable (AP) is still viewed as a back-office task, focused on cutting checks, chasing approvals, and managing cash flow delays. But leading contractors are starting to view AP differently: as a strategic function directly tied to profitability, vendor relationships, and financial flexibility. In this fireside chat, Samantha Lake sits down with Bruce Orr (ProNovos), Greg DiDonna (Viva Capital), and Avi Reddy (Envision Construction) to explore how forward-thinking contractors are changing their approach to payables. They’ll discuss how QuickPay programs can give GCs and subs faster access to funds, strengthen relationships across the supply chain, and position businesses to better manage working capital in today’s market.
Key topics will include:
Behind every strong contractor is a great CPA, and they’ve seen it all. In this fast-paced 30-minute session, a panel of seasoned CPAs who specialize in construction will share the top 10 things they wish every contractor did to make year-end smoother, improve financial outcomes, and avoid costly missteps. From job costing habits to communication timing, you’ll walk away with practical tips that can strengthen your relationship with your CPA and boost your business.
What’s shaping the future of construction? In this session, CFMA CEO Neil Shah will walk through the latest economic indicators and trends impacting contractors today. Drawing from CFMA’s Financial Benchmarker and CONFINDEX, as well as other key industry data, Neil will provide a data-driven look at where the industry stands and where it’s headed. Attendees will gain insights they can use to guide planning, benchmark performance, and prepare for what’s next.
The construction industry generates vast amounts of data, but most teams still struggle to turn that information into clear, actionable insights. In this session, Garrett Cochran, Customer Success Engineer at ProNovos, will moderate a conversation with three experts who’ve helped hundreds of contractors make more intelligent decisions by connecting the dots between operations, accounting, and forecasting. Denver Sperry, Implementation Manager, will share what he has learned by helping contractors transition from manual workflows to meaningful metrics. Kevin Bright, Product Manager and former construction PM, will highlight how bridging field and finance leads to better forecasting and fewer surprises. And Jake Agnew, our Q&A and integrations specialist, will walk through how to break down data silos with the right system connections. Using real-world examples from ProNovos, the panel will explore how technology can address common pain points such as siloed data, manual reporting, and project visibility gaps, while providing attendees with a firsthand look at tools that actually work. Whether you’re trying to replace spreadsheets, improve reporting, or just make your data more useful, this session will leave you with practical ideas and a fresh perspective.

3:10 pm | “Right-Sizing” a Construction Firm | John Killingsworth, Associate Professor, Colorado State University
How much cash should a construction firm keep in the business? What’s the right level of overhead? And when does holding too much cash actually hinder growth? These are common questions in the industry, but the answers are not always clear-cut. This session explores how to benchmark a company’s cash-to-revenue ratio using descriptive statistics and what this ratio reveals about the company’s financial health. It also addresses a widespread but costly mindset in the construction industry: the aversion to debt. When used strategically, debt can be a more cost-effective option than missing opportunities to invest in revenue-generating assets. The session will also highlight the importance of working with CPAs and sureties to determine how debt can support operations while preserving cash for growth, ultimately helping firms build capacity and long-term resilience.
4:00 pm | Unmasking Leadership: What Happens When We Stop Hiding | Sean Taylor, CEO, Smith + Howard
What if the traits that help people recover from addiction, like rigorous honesty, surrender, and accountability, were the same ones that could transform your leadership? This session explores the unexpected connection between recovery principles and effective leadership. Through personal reflection and real-world application, you’ll be challenged to consider how the masks we wear in business may be limiting our potential and what it might look like to lead without them.
